Meta has made a strong entry into the artificial intelligence space with the official release of the commercial version of its open-source AI model, Llama. Partnering with Microsoft, Llama 2 will now be available through Microsoft’s Azure cloud service.

Llama 2 is free for research and commercial use.

This new release model work on ranging from 7B to 70B parameters.

Llama2 is trained on 40% more data than Llama 1.

Earlier this was only limited to a select group of academics for research purposes. Mark Zuckerberg mentioned that Llama 2 will now be accessible to broad set of companies and people across tech, academia, and policy.

As per Mark Zuckerberg , In today’s rapidly advancing field of AI models, particularly in the generative space, we firmly believe that an open approach is the most suitable. By making AI models openly accessible, we can ensure widespread benefits for all. This includes providing businesses, startups, entrepreneurs, and researchers with access to tools developed at a scale that would be difficult to replicate independently. Additionally, by leveraging computing power that may otherwise be out of reach, we aim to unlock a world of opportunities for experimentation, innovation, and ultimately, economic and social benefits.

Llama 2 features:

1. Advance version of Llama 1.
2. Llama2 is trained on 40% more data than Llama 1.
3. Llama 2 is free to use for research and commercial use.
4. Llama 2 outperforms other open source language models on many external benchmarks, including reasoning, coding, proficiency, and knowledge tests.
“Open source drives innovation because it enables many more developers to build with new technology,” Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post.
